Welcome Fellow Hawkeyes!

The Tampa Bay IOWA Club, chartered by the University of Iowa Alumni Association, promotes the interests of the University, its alumni and friends through our educational, social and athletic programs. All alumni, friends and students of the University of Iowa are invited into our membership and to join us at our many events and activities. Please visit the rest of the website to discover the many events and activities where you can meet fellow Iowans, network for business purposes and share memories.

Aside from the upcoming football season we have a number of events on the schedule we hope to see all of our members attend.  All future events can be found on the calendar - we hope to see you there!

One of the purposes of our club is to provide a scholarship award to a local student attending the University of Iowa....once again the TBIC and it's members and friends came through.  With your help and the help of the University of Iowa Alumni Association a very grateful local student received a University of Iowa Alumni Association IOWA Club scholarship award for the 2010 - 2011 academic year ($2000/TBIC + $1,000/UIAA match).  We received a thank you letter from her and in the letter she stated: "Awarding this scholarship to me allows me to better focus on my school work and not worry about paying for loan payments and other expenses at Iowa."  An excellent job by the TBIC and UIAA in helping her dream to graduate from the University of Iowa come true!

The TBIC announced a couple of years ago the establishment of the Tampa Bay IOWA Club Scholarship Endowment Fund, a mission was created.  The board called and you, the Tampa Bay IOWA Club, answered, in a big way.  the board developed a 5 year plan to reach the $50,000 goal and with an initial donation of $20,000, we had 5 years to raise $30,000.  We not only reached the goal, but did it 3 years early!  To date, you have grown the TBIC Scholarship Endowment Fund to more than $50,000!!  Now that it's considered fully funded, it will support one or more annual scholarships for students in the Tampa Bay area into perpetuity.  Selection shall be in accordance with standard requirements set forth by UI Office of Financial Aid (academic promise, financial need, etc.) and the UI Alumni Association, with the scholarship to be awarded at the onset of the spring semester.  Preference will be given to full-time students in this order: seniors, juniors, sophomores, freshmen.  The scholarship and awardees shall be published in a manner consistent with established procedures with the Alumni Association.  We expect to raise additional funds through:

  • Interest earned on existing assets
  • Direct donations from members
  • Matching funds from member employers
  • Corporate donations
  • Event/program profits

We thank you for your generous support and although we have reached our first goal we will continue to accept additional donations.  If you're interested in additional information please contact us at tampabayiowaclub@gmail.com and we will send you a donation brochure.

For the month of April the Tampa Bay IOWA Club participated in the inaugural community service project initiative along with the UIAA and many other IOWA Clubs across the country.  The TBIC partnered with Metropolitan Ministries of Tampa and on April 11th sent out 30 members of the TBIC to assist Metropolitan Ministries of Tampa with the Tampa Heights Junior Civic Association (THJrCA) Center.  The THJrCA is a community-based after school and summer program that provides services to youth and their families in the City of Tampa.  Services range from mentoring, tutoring, computer technology, health education, character building, workforce and financial literacy development.  These services are created to help ensure every youth in Tampa Heights has the opportunity to help them become strong leaders and good citizens.  We had an incredible time and experience working with this organization and look forward to attending their Grand Opening in the next few weeks!  The Tampa Bay IOWA Club wants to thank each and every one of you who participated and invite everyone to join us for the Grand Opening so please stay tuned!

Be sure to check out the calendar for all upcoming events....we hope to see you there!
